Congress Protests Over Kargi Dumping Zone, Lays Siege to Municipal Corporation

Dehradun. While tall claims of cleanliness continue to be made, Kargi Chowk in the Dharmpur assembly constituency has turned into a hub of stench and diseases these days. The garbage dumping zone located in a residential area has once again sparked a political showdown. Led by State Women’s Congress President Jyoti Rautela, party workers launched an offensive against the municipal corporation and laid siege to the civic body, demanding immediate removal of the dumping zone.

Workers Hit the Streets Carrying Garbage in Polythene Bags

Furious over the municipal corporation’s negligence, Congress workers staged a unique protest. They held a sit-in demonstration carrying garbage in polythene bags. The protesters dismissed the “Clean Dehradun” slogans as mere tokenism, pointing out that heaps of waste lie scattered across the city, but the Kargi dumping zone represents the worst of it all.

Jyoti Rautela launched a scathing attack on the municipal corporation, saying the very purpose for which the Kargi dumping zone was established has completely failed. She pointed out that this dumping zone sits right in the middle of a densely populated area where children, women and elderly people live. The daily accumulation of waste is causing serious health problems for residents.

Waste Processing Claims Exist Only on Paper

Congress rejected the municipal corporation’s claim that garbage dumped at the site would be processed and removed the same day. Jyoti Rautela bluntly stated that ground reality tells a different story. While garbage keeps piling up daily, there’s neither any processing nor timely clearance. The result is plain to see – the Kargi dumping zone has transformed into a mountain of waste.

Congress has alleged that memorandums were submitted to Mayor Saurabh Thapliyal and District Magistrate Savin Bansal four months ago regarding this issue, but no concrete action has been taken so far. The Women’s Congress maintains that this administrative silence clearly shows that neither the government nor the municipal corporation takes public grievances seriously.

Movement Will Intensify if Dumping Zone Isn’t Removed

State Women’s Congress President Jyoti Rautela issued a stern warning that if the Kargi garbage dumping yard isn’t relocated soon, the agitation will gather more steam. She emphasized that Congress won’t back down from fighting for public health and rights. If necessary, this issue will be raised everywhere – from the streets to the assembly floor.
