A shocking incident that rattled the corridors of the Directorate of Education has taken a new turn. On Saturday, Raipur MLA Umesh Sharma Kau and his supporters allegedly stormed into the Directorate of Education, physically assaulted Primary Education Director Ajay Nodial, and went on to ransack his office. Acting on the Director’s complaint, police swiftly registered an FIR against the accused.

The case was booked under five serious charges — obstructing a government official from discharging his duties, rioting, destruction of government property, criminal intimidation involving threats of grievous harm, and deliberate provocation intended to breach public peace.
Four individuals were subsequently arrested in connection with the incident. However, what the Education Department’s staff wanted most — the arrest of MLA Umesh Sharma Kau himself — never came to pass. To the dismay of many, the Additional Civil Judge Mamta Pant’s court has now granted bail to all four of the arrested accused.
While the case is far from over and legal proceedings will continue, the fact that the accused are now walking free has not gone down well with the Education Department’s workforce. Officers and employees alike are furious, and the union has made it clear that a major agitation is on the horizon if justice is not served.
The big question now is — where does this case go from here, and will the ones truly responsible ever be held accountable?
