Dehradun, Feb. 13 — In response to a recent spate of criminal incidents, the Uttarakhand government has ordered administrative reshuffles in the police department, including the transfer of several IPS officers and the reassignment of the SSP of Dehradun.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has taken a firm line on the uptick in crime, convening law-and-order review meetings and issuing strict instructions to senior officials. Dhami reiterated the government’s commitment to a zero-tolerance policy on crime and urged a sharper focus on public safety.
Police sources said quick action following the latest incidents led to the timely arrest of the accused. The Chief Minister has directed that policing move beyond reactive responses; emphasis must be placed on proactive and preventive measures to curb crime before it occurs.
As part of the administrative overhaul, several postings within the police department have been adjusted to enhance operational responsiveness, accountability and effectiveness. Officials said the changes aim to strengthen field supervision and ensure faster follow-up on investigations.
Dhami has also called for bolstering the informant and intelligence network, increasing visible deterrents against offenders, and restoring public confidence in law enforcement. He underlined that citizens should be able to report crimes without fear and expect swift justice.
The state government says the measures form part of a broader effort to reinforce law and order across Uttarakhand so that no part of the state becomes a safe haven for criminals. Further reviews and follow-up actions are expected in the coming weeks.
