Panic Over Alleged Kidnapping Attempt at School; Police Probe Uncovers Reality

Dehradun: A report about an attempted child abduction at Dehradun’s reputed Doon International School sent shockwaves across the city. Social media was flooded with claims that a gang was targeting schoolchildren. However, after a thorough police investigation, the entire episode turned out to be nothing more than a rumor—one that has destroyed an innocent family’s life.

Swift Police Action

SSP Ajay Singh explained that as soon as they received information about an unknown woman questioning children outside the school, the police administration took the matter seriously and launched an immediate response. A special team was dispatched to the school, which included the City Magistrate and City Information Officer. The team reached the spot, assessed the situation, and spoke with the school administration.

Police first examined the school’s CCTV footage carefully. What they saw was nothing remotely close to a kidnapping attempt. A woman was standing normally in the school premises with her husband and young child. She wasn’t carrying any weapon or dangerous object—just a medical syringe, which was later explained.

A Misunderstanding Among Children Sparked the Rumor

During the investigation, police also spoke with the schoolchildren who had interacted with the woman. The inquiry revealed that there had simply been a misunderstanding among the kids. Seeing an unfamiliar person near the school made them anxious, and they misinterpreted the situation. This confusion spread quickly, and before anyone knew it, it had morphed into a rumor about an abduction attempt.

Police also had a detailed conversation with the woman and her family. The investigation found no evidence supporting any of the allegations being circulated.

The Real Story: A Patient’s Wife’s Struggle

When she arrived at the SSP office, Reshma Praveen shared her full story. She explained that her husband has been undergoing treatment at Gandhi Shatabdi Hospital for a long time. He’s ill and requires regular injections and medication. That day too, she had gone to the hospital to collect her husband’s medicine.

The syringe in her hand was for her husband’s treatment—not a weapon to harm any child. But a newspaper published the story without verification, claiming that a gang involved in child abduction had become active in Dehradun and that a woman was spotted with a syringe in her hand.

A News Report That Ruined Lives

After the story was published, Reshma and her family’s life became hell. Neighbors started looking at them with suspicion, stepping out of the house became difficult. Their photographs went viral on social media, with people labeling them as kidnappers. An innocent woman who was devoted to caring for her sick husband day and night suddenly became the target of public hatred.

Reshma appealed to SSP Ajay Singh to take action against the newspaper that published this story without verifying the facts. She said she would take this matter to court because this false report has severely damaged her and her family’s reputation. Her children are facing taunts at school, and amidst her husband’s illness, this mental torture has become unbearable.

SSP’s Appeal: Don’t Spread Rumors

SSP Ajay Singh responded seriously to this entire incident. He said that in today’s age of social media, any news spreads like wildfire, but people need to act responsibly.

This case also raises questions about media responsibility.

Police have made it clear that there have been no child abduction cases in Dehradun recently, nor is any gang active. But the damage caused by one rumor is something Reshma and her family may have to bear for a long time to come.
