The Mahanagar Congress Committee, Dehradun came together on Wednesday to pay its respects to the man who shaped the destiny of a newly independent nation. A tribute ceremony was held in memory of late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru — India’s first Prime Minister, a towering figure of the freedom struggle, and the principal architect of modern India — marking the anniversary of his passing. Leaders and workers offered flowers at his portrait in a moment of quiet reverence, and jointly pledged to carry forward the values and vision he stood for throughout his life.
Addressing the gathering, Mahanagar Congress Committee President Dr. Jaswinder Singh Gogi spoke with conviction about Nehru’s enduring legacy. He said that Nehru did not merely govern the country — he gave it a compass, building the foundations of democracy, rational thinking, education, and inclusive development at a time when India was finding its feet as a free nation. Dr. Gogi added that no passage of time could diminish the magnitude of what Nehru gave to India, and that his ideals would continue to light the way for every generation that follows.
State Vice President Suryakant Dhasmana struck a deeply relevant note in his remarks, pointing out that the values Nehru championed — social harmony, democratic accountability, and respect for every citizen — are not relics of the past but urgent necessities of the present. He said the Congress party draws its strength from these very principles and will never waver in its commitment to protecting the Constitution, preserving national unity, and standing up for the rights of all Indians.
The event brought together a cross-section of Congress workers and leaders who spoke from the heart about Nehru’s life, his sacrifices, and the India he dreamed of building. Among those prominently present were State President of the Scheduled Department Madan Lal, Jagdish Dhiman, Lalit Badri, Rajesh Pundhir, Jitendra Taneja, Surat Negi, Sunil Jaiswal, Ramkumar Thapliyal, Dinesh Kaushal, Abhishek Tiwari, Jaswinder Muti, Veeresh Sharma, Altaf Ahmed, Jamal, Adarsh Sood, Suraj Chhetri, and a number of other dedicated party workers and office bearers.
